Introduction: Trauma induced coagulopathy has been extensively investigated in the multi-trauma setting, but only sparsely following moderate orthopedic trauma. There are no reliable laboratory assays to identify patients at risk for venous thromboembolic (VTE) events after major orthopaedic surgery. Hip fracture surgeries are associated with considerable blood loss, while the perioperative coagulopathy is associated with the bleeding risk of these patients.
