Background : Child abuse is a major societal problem that affects between 10 to 22% of children, depending on the study. Paradoxically, general practitioners seem to be little involved in current screening and management practices. The aim of this study is to understand the perceptions of child abuse by general practitioners in Mayotte.Method : This is a qualitative study of 8 general practitioners working in Mayotte, with data collection by individual semi-directed interviews and analysis by data triangulation inspired by grounded theory.Results : The results highlighted a perception of child abuse by doctors as rare, limited to physical and sexual violence and malnutrition, omitting neglect and other forms.
