Adhesive strip concept for delamination arrestment /

This program demonstrated the feasibility of using discrete adhesive strips in graphite-epoxy laminates to arrest the growth of delaminations. The narrow strips of tough adhesive were placed adjacent to wider strips of unidirectional graphite-epoxy tape during layup. When cocured in the laminate, the strips provided a network of tough, interconnecting bonds that inhibited delamination growth between plies.
