Identity and Pluralism. The Values of Postmodernism

The social change that characterizes our age involves substantial points of reference, the values that always have supported the individual in his daily search for meaning. The transition of society from traditional, to modern, to postmodern is marked by a new definition of the concepts of truth and authority, which are now understood to mean freedom of choice for every person. Therefore, from this perspective, such a change in values primarily means a change in the instruments of legitimization of the values themselves, moving from a credibility attributable to exclusive tradition an authority to a sort of toned-down credibility based on the multiplicity of choices available to individuals
