TRENDS, CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS OF NIGERIA’S AFRICAN CENTERPIECE DIPLOMACY CATALYZING THE HUMANITARIAN APPROACH

The paper x-rayed Nigeria’s African Centerpiece Diplomacy as the basis of its foreign policy. This is laughable in view of the current global phenomenon such as globalization, democracy, climate change, terrorism, human rights and so forth. This is so as it is time for Nigeria to showcase the giant we are within the global community. Therefore, Nigeria should not limit itself to gains within the African centerpiece as a pillar of its foreign policy rather she should be widening her horizons to accommodate contemporary realities of the global system; is a welcomed development. As it can definitely embolden Nigeria as a big power player in global politics, for a strategic review of its foreign policy objectives taking into cognizance contemporary challenges of the globalized order. Hence, the paper therefore argues that, it is no longer tenable for foreign policy to revolve around a single pillar rather than a crop of potential foreign policy objectives for the country.
