Comunidades de fala efêmeras: uma leitura ecolinguística da carta de Caminha

The theme of this article is a critical and interpretive reading of the Letter by Pero Vaz de Caminha, from 1500, having as its main theme a theoretical analysis of linguistic contact, based on two interdisciplinary fields: the Historiography of Linguistics and Ecolinguistics. For this purpose, we made use of the concept of “ephemeral speaking community” (COUTO, 2016), analyzing the report of the scribe of Cabral's fleet of the contact between indigenous Tupiniquins and Nicolau Coelho, an experienced Portuguese navigator, which took place in the region of Porto Seguro, in sixteenth-century Portuguese America. We analyzed the context of linguistic thought at the time, through the conceptual apparatus of Swiggers (2013), in the performance of línguas, the colonial interpreters, and how this process of linguistic contact was processed, empirically, in this historical context. Finally, we make considerations and comments for the analysis of linguistic thought in this historical period, in which interpreters known as línguas acted in intercultural relations between different linguistic communities.O tema do presente artigo é uma leitura crítica e interpretativa da Carta de Pero Vaz de Caminha, de 1500, tendo por temática uma análise teórica do contato linguístico, por uma fundamentação a partir de dois campos interdisciplinares: a Historiografia da Linguística e a Ecolinguística. Para tal intento, valemo-nos do conceito de “comunidade de fala efêmera” (COUTO, 2016), analisando o relato do escrivão da armada de Cabral do contato entre indígenas Tupiniquins e Nicolau Coelho, experiente navegador português, que ocorreu na região de Porto Seguro, na América portuguesa quinhentista. Analisamos o contexto do pensamento linguístico da época, pelo aparato conceitual de Swiggers (2013), na atuação de línguas, os intérpretes coloniais, e como esse processo de contato linguístico se processava, empiricamente, nesse contexto histórico. Por fim, tecemos considerações e comentários para a análise do pensamento linguístico desse período histórico, em que os intérpretes conhecidos como línguas atuavam nas relações interculturais entre comunidades linguísticas diversas
