Summary of Dissertation Recitals Three Programs of Solo Piano Music

Abstract Three piano recitals were given in lieu of a written dissertation. The first recital presented works by two French composers, Debussy and Ravel. The recital took place on Friday, April 2, 2021, 8:00 p.m. in Stamps Auditorium, at the Walgreen Drama Center at the University of Michigan. Works performed were Preludes, Book 1, nos. 2, 10, 12, and Book 2, nos. 8, 12, and Images, Book I, by Claude Debussy; and Gaspard de la nuit, by Maurice Ravel. The second recital combined a lecture-presentation with a performance of a sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven. This recital took place on Friday, September 17, 2021, 7:00 p.m. in Britton Recital Hall of the Moore Building at the University of Michigan. The work presented and performed was the Sonata in C minor, Op. 111. The third recital continued the exploration of the piano sonata genre. The recital presented sonatas from the classical period, the late romantic period, and the twentieth century. This recital took place on Monday, May 23, 2022, 7:00 p.m. in Britton Recital Hall of the Moore Building at the University of Michigan.
