Three piano recitals were given in fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts. The first recital presented the Sonata in B-flat major, K. 570 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the four Ballades, Op. 23, 38, 47 and 52 by Frédéric Chopin, illustrating how he transformed the vocal “ballade” into an instrumental genre. This recital took place on January 23, 2021 in Britton Recital Hall at the University of Michigan, School of Music, Theatre and Dance.
