Culture-negative endocarditis caused by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia : a report of two cases

International audienceStenotrophomonas maltophilia, an aerobic, non-fermenting, Gram-negative bacterium, is an emerging nosocomial pathogen. It is considered to be a low-grade pathogen, and infections due to S. maltophilia are uncommon. However, in the recent past, S. maltophilia infections have been on the rise, particularly in patients who are either immunocompromised, aged or on long-term antibiotic therapy.
