Nickel-based chromia-forming alloys are essential high-performance alloys in the nuclear industry thanks to their good corrosion resistance at high temperatures. The secret of this resistance is the formation of a protective chromia (Cr2O3) scale on the surface, which grows very slowly through the diffusion of point defects. The aim of this work is to study the oxidation of nickel-based chromia-forming alloys at high temperature. The study is structured around two major components. One concerns the oxidation kinetics and the evolution of both microstructure and chemical composition of the substrate during oxidation. The other focuses on the identification of point defects responsible for the growth of chromia by experimental and numerical te...
