MasterExtracellular vesicles (EVs) are nanometric particles, 20 to 300 nm in diameter, produced by most cells and secreted into the surrounding environment. They play an essential role in the communication between cells (intra- and inter-species) and in the transport of bioactive molecules from a producing cell to a receiving cell such as toxins. They perform several biological functions with both offensive and defensive mechanisms, such as quorum sensing, nutrient and toxin delivery, antibiotic resistance, elimination of competitive organisms, and transfer of genetic material.
