International audienceBased on a field survey of women and midwives in maternity type 1, this article analyses how physiological childbirth, promoted as a space of autonomy for women, can itself produce domination. It identifies the strength of the discourses and practices that produce alternatives to epidural delivery, but also their limits as individualistic and naturalistic ideologies.
