Cytotoxicity assay that measures the cytosolic enzyme LDH that is released upon cell lysis to test the cell viability after priming.

Human primary monocytes were preincubated in the presence of taurine (0.1, 0.5, or 1 mM) for 1 hour, after which they were incubated for 24 hours with culture medium, BCG (5 μg/mL), or β-glucan (1 μg/mL). After 24 hours, LDH was measured in the supernatant (N = 6 per condition). The y-axis represents the degree of cytotoxicity in percentage relative to the positive and negative control.
