International audienceThe media and academic research have taken an increasing interest in Kurdish women fighters since the 2000s without always being based on primary data. In order to understand whether this commitment coincides with a real quest for emancipation, we conducted a qualitative sociological survey with 28 female fighters of the Partiya Karkerên Kurdistan (PKK). The originality of the research is twofold. On the one hand, the question of emancipation rather than equality or gender relations is addressed.
