The rise of services sectors is a characteristic feature in developed economies. Thanks to a unique dataset for Belgianmanufacturing firms over the years 1997-2013, we provide a description of this phenomenon, focusing on manufacturing firms that provide services. This phenomenon is highly heterogeneous between and within sectors. In particular, the relationship between servitisation and firm efficiency can be increasing, decreasing or U-shaped according to the sector, pointing to different strategies for turning to services provision.
