The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between the European Union and Canada (CETA) and the Paris Agreement on climate change were framed and negotiated in parallel, at a time when some voices are calling for “ defragmenting” international climate law in order to better reconcile the requirements of free trade and the fight against global warming. Chapter 24 of CETA is explicitly dedicated to the issue of “ trade and environment”.
