The authors describe a mathematical model for estimating the performance of wind turbine engines with vertical axis, Darrieus type. The model is based on the discretization of the fluid stream through the rotor in elementary flow lines. The results obtained from the computer program for the proposed model are compared with others found in the literature. Finally some experiments carried out on a specially constructed rotor are described
