Fluoroquinolone agents are considered critical for human medicine by the World Health Organization (WHO). However, they are often used for the treatment of avian colibacillosis in poultry production, creating considerable concern regarding the potential spread of fluoroquinolone resistance genes from commensals to pathogens.
