Add to ORKGIn the slipstream of E.M. de Vogüé’s seminal articles in the Revue des Deux Mondes (1883-1885) Russian literature became fashionable in Western European periodicals, acting as a hub of cultural transfer for the local reception of the likes of Tolstoy, Pushkin, and Turgenev. An analysis of the contemporary Dutch periodical market reveals that newspapers showed a particular preference to not only label short prose by the above-mentioned authors as legends and fairy tales, but to adapt the narration of short stories to fit these genres from the romantic age.
