Estuaries are highly dynamic systems where complex biogeochemical greatly affect the fate of organic and non-organic matter. The physical mixing of freshwater and saltwater leads to high variability in the main drivers controlling organisms distribution and trace metals partitioning between the particulate and dissolved phases: eg. salinity gradient, suspended particulate matter concentration (SPM).
