Multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory and neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system. Although therapies reducing the inflammatory component of the disease are available, it is essential to understand the mechanisms promoting remyelination in order to develop strategies to slow down the progression of the disease. The nodes of Ranvier allow the fast saltatory propagation of action potentials along myelinated fibers. It has been shown that nodes are an early target in demyelination that induces their disruption. Furthermore, it was observed that the reclustering of the nodes is an early event in remyelination suggesting a role in repair.
