International audienceIn January 2011, all over Egypt, hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated against Hosni Mubarak, questioning the legitimacy of his power. During this period, the ways in which violence was framed as legitimate or illegitimate changed, leading to radical reconfigurations of power relations and ultimately the fall of the dictator. The country-wide shift influenced – and was dialectically influenced by – individuals’ everyday experiences, relationships, and representations of the world.
