International audienceSurgical castration will be banned in France by 31 December 2021. This double-blind study, conducted on a commercial farm, evaluated the effectiveness and field feasibility of a pain-management protocol that combined local anaesthesia and analgesia. One hundred and one male piglets aged 3-5 days were randomly assigned to two groups: "treated" (48 piglets), castrated with a protocol that combined 30% sucrose orally, Tri-solfen® (lidocaine, bupivacaine, adrenaline, cetrimide) by local instillation and meloxicam intramuscularly; and "control" (53 piglets), which received meloxicam intramuscularly.
