Strain-induced/assisted crystallization (SIC) of polymers plays an important role in a variety of industrial applications, such as tires, fibers, and containers. The semi-crystalline structure that is induced by straining is assumed to be the origin of the high tensile strength and resistance against the formation and propagation of cracks in rubber. The process of SIC has been well investigated experimentally and remains a topic of active research. However, some of its aspects, such as the germination of crystallites and how these crystalline domains change under deformation at the scale of crystallites, are still not fully understood.
