Dionysos et la libération de l’âme dans la tradition philosophique orphique

International audienceIn the Orphic philosophical tradition, which includes a conception of the liberation of the soul, Dionysos is a prevailing god. But it remains to be seen in what way Dionysos is a god of liberation, a freeing god, and what Orphic salvation might mean, if one does not subscribe to an interpretation that puts the emphasis on the twin ideas of “ancestal guilt” and “personal deification of the initiate”. It is rather the weakness of the sovereignty, and even of the divinity in Dionysos that draws our attention: that weakness opens the way to a state where there is no longer either man or god.Dans la tradition philosophique orphique, qui comporte une conception de la libération de l’âme, Dionysos est un dieu d’élection. Mais il reste à déterminer à quel titre Dionysos est un dieu libérateur, et surtout ce que peut signifier la libération orphique, si l’on ne souscrit pas à une exégèse qui mettrait l’accent sur l’idée d’une faute ancestrale et d’une divinisation personnelle de l’initié. C’est plutôt la faiblesse de la souveraineté et même de la divinité en Dionysos qui requiert l’attention, quand elle ouvre la voie à un état dans lequel il n’y a plus ni homme ni dieu
