Antibiotics are major contributors to the modern therapeutic arsenal used to combat bacterial infections. However, these last decades have seen the emergence of multi-drug resistant strains, including the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa, acknowledged as a priority target for the development of new treatment strategies by the World Health Organization. Its phylogenetically close relative, P. putida, is rarely identified in clinical isolates but is an excellent model to study its capacity to acquire and collect resistance mechanisms.
