The Relationship Between Job Satisfaction and Job Burnout in Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors

Thus, the purpose of the study was to describe and compare levels of burnout and levels of job satisfaction in a sample of vocational rehabilitation counselors employed in private enterprise. Specifically, the study attempted to: l. Determine the actual extent of job satisfaction, as measured by the Job satisfaction Inventory, and job burnout, as measured oy the Maslach Burnout Inventory, in a sample of vocational rehabilitation counselors employed in private enterprise. 2. Determine the degree of relationship (association) between job satisfaction (as measured by the Job Satisfaction Inventory (JSI)) and job burnout (as measured by the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI)) in a sample of vocational rehabilitation counselors employed in private enterprise. 3. Determine the degree of relationship (association) between each of the eight subscales of the JSI (1) physical and mental exertion; (2) relations with employers; (3) relations with associates; (4) security, advancement, and finances; (5) interest in, liking for, and emotional involvement in the job; (6) job information, training, and status; (7) physical surroundings and work conditions; and (8) future, goals and status) and job burnout, as measured by each of the six scales of the MBI (1) Emotional Exhaustion Frequency; (2) Depersonalization Frequency; (3) Personal Accomplishment Frequency; (4) Emotional Exhaustion Intensity; (5) Depersonalization Intensity; and (6) Personal Accomplishment Intensity) in a sample of vocational rehabilitation counselors employed in private enterprise. 4. Determine the most important subscales of the JSI, both singly and in combination, with respect to the strength of their association with burnout, as measured by the MBI scales, in a sample of vocational rehabilitation counselors employed in private enterprise..
