Ar pārtiku uzņemtie nitrāti var papildināt endogēni sintezēto nitrātu/nitrītu daudzumu organismā, tādējādi palielinot NO biopieejamību un uzlabojot fiziskas darbaspējas. Tāpēc šī darba mērķis ir noskaidrot vai nitrātu un nitrītu daudzuma izmaiņas asinīs un mutes skalojumos pirms un pēc fiziskas slodzes ir atkarīgas no uzturā uzņemtā nitrātu un nitrītu daudzuma. Pētījumā piedalījās 16 dalībnieki, kuri 2 nedēļu laikā veica uztura monitoringu par nitrātus saturošo produktu patēriņu, 3 dienas pierakstīja uztura dienasgrāmatu, dalībnieki vienreizēji ieradās laboratorijā, kur pirms un pēc intermitēta, pieaugušas intensitātes fiziskas slodzes līdz atteicei nodeva asins paraugus un mutes skalojumus nitrātu un nitrītu koncentrācijas noteikšanai.
