Chemotaxis allows bacteria to follow gradients of nutrients, environmental stimuli, and signaling molecules, optimizing bacterial growth and survival. Escherichia coli has long served as a model of bacterial chemotaxis, and the signal processing by the core of its chemotaxis pathway is well understood.
