The potassium 2-phenylacetyl-trifluoroborate (PTFB) salt has been experimentally characterized by using FT-IR, FT-Raman and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopies while its structures were theoretically determined in gas phase and in aqueous solution by using B3LYP/6–311++G** method. The studies in solution were performed at the same level of theory with the integral equation formalism variant polarised continuum method (IEFPCM) and the universal solvation model. The comparisons among the predicted IR, Raman and UV–Visible spectra have evidenced good concordance with the corresponding experimental ones.
