In this note, we update the results of previous studies primarily using data from the 2017 Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), and show that proximity between the elderly and their children is profoundly uneven between different European countries. We then observe how in the close future this inhomogeneity will be accentuated by the different fertility that has characterized European countries over the past several decades. Finally, we briefly consider how the differences in proximity between European seniors and their children are interrelated with types of assistance to the frail elderly
