Aims of the thesis are to describe new applications of stable isotope tracers, applied to study pulmonary surfactant kinetics in human newborns. My PhD project was initially focused on the most suitable metabolic substrate to measure surfactant DSPC synthesis and more specifically on the difference between de-novo synthesis an remodeling synthesis using free fatty acids derived from the circulating blood.
