Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the highest grade glioma and the most common and aggressive form of primary adult brain tumors, classified as grade IV astrocytoma. The term "multiforme" in GBM describes the heterogeneous nature of these tumors, also characterized by diffuse infiltration into surrounding tissue. These features prevent complete surgical resection. Despite the use of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, the median survival for patients with GBM is only 14.6 months. The poor prognosis for GBM patients is due to a high incidence of recurrence and limited responses to approved therapies [1].
