Generating motions for humanoid robots is to this day a very challenging problem. These robots often features a high number of degrees of freedom, 20 or more, even for small-sized ones. This strongly limits the applicability of classical artificial intelligence approaches, and requires the design of specialized solutions. Some specific tasks, like locomotion or grasping, have been deeply studied, and important concepts like the Zero Moment Point (ZMP) for stable walking or the Grasping Shape Primitives were introduced.
