The main question of this research is whether it is possible - and if so, under what conditions - to carry out scientific research in the field of education. The first research step was a systematic and in-depth examination of Nineteenth-century epistemology. The aim of this study was to comprehend the key issues that have questioned the notion of science, the search of truth in science, scientific progress and contemporary scientific practice. Through this exploration, it was possible to examine how the aspects which make up what we call science, can help us to define the particular field of research in education.
