Multimodal interfaces represent a key factor for enabling an inclusive use of new technologies by everyone. To achieve this, realistic models that describe our environment are of topical importance, in particular models that accurately describe the acoustics of the environment and communication through the auditory modality. Models for spatial (or 3-D) audio can provide accurate information about the relation between the sound source and the surrounding environment, and this information cannot be substituted by any other modality.
