BACKGROUND: In the western world the prevalence of valvular heart diseases in general population account for 2%, and is constantly increasing due to ageing phenomena of the population. Current surgical therapies imply the use of mechanical and biological valves for the replacement of the diseased valve. Unfortunately in the long term this substitute valves lead patients to complications or reoperations.
