While the phenotypic changes involved in the Barrett’s esophageal oncogenic "cascade" are now well established, the molecular profiling of this pathway remains defective. The understanding of the molecular dysregulations underlying the development and progression of cancer has recently been expanded by the characterization of new classes of noncoding RNA gene products, such as the microRNAs (or miRNAs) and the transcribed utraconserved regions (T-UCR).
