ABSTRACT In the late stage of the disease, breast cancer patients often develop bone metastases, a major cause of cancer-related death among women worldwide. The common treatment currently used clinically includes the anti-neoplastic agent paclitaxel combined with the bisphosphonate alendronate. Paclitaxel is an anti-neoplastic drug which cytotoxic effect is mainly attributed to its ability to promote the assembly of microtubules as well as prevent the depolymerisation of these microtubules. Stabilization of the microtubule networks stops mitotic functions that, in sequence, blocks cell division.
