Teoria della coscienza e fondazione del sapere. Un confronto tra la Wissenschaftslehre di J.G. Fichte e la science de l'homme di P. Maine de Biran.

The thesis proposes a comparison between Fichte’s first “Doctrine of science” (1794-1799) and the middle period of Maine de Biran’s thought (1804-1817), focusing on two main themes: the definition of philosophy as science of the principles of objective knowledge and a theory of the basic cognitive and practical functions of the sensitive-rational subject, grounding on a primary activity which the I perceives as its essence in any self-determined act of will. The traditional distinction between theory and praxis is overcome through the foundation of the former by the latter, and the Kantian primacy of practical reason is radicalized through the employment of freedom as a constitutive principle of our theoretical access to the external world. By reconstructing the different context in which the two systems are conceived, we show an essential difference between the argumentative layers (transcendental philosophy and theory of the real, finite I), as well as the similar way in which, in both cases, a «system of freedom» is established out of the inconsistencies of a dogmatic-deterministic philosophical model. Then we show the structural analogy between the two theories of consciousness, based on the opposition between free activity and an obstacle (Anstoss) which transforms it into an effort or tension (Streben). The consonance between Wissenschaftslehre and Science de l’homme concerning the themes at issue allows us to interpret these systems as different ways of dealing with similar problems. On the one hand, we intend to contribute to the reconstruction of the context for Fichte’s doctrine; on the other hand we find in Maine de Biran’s theory an inclination towards a transcendental approach, which reveals, in a new way, the complexity of his thought, which cannot be totally read as a development of Idéologie.La tesi propone un’analisi comparativa tra la dottrina jenese di Fichte (1794-1799) e la fase intermedia del pensiero di Maine de Biran (1804-1817) relativamente a due temi principali: la definizione della filosofia come scienza dei fondamenti del sapere e una teoria delle basilari funzioni cognitive e pratiche del soggetto sensibile-razionale, fondate su un’attività originaria appercepita dall’Io come propria essenza nell’autodeterminazione tramite volontà. La tradizionale distinzione tra teoresi e prassi è riconfigurata come fondazione della prima per opera della seconda, e il primato kantiano della ragion pratica è radicalizzato nell’adozione della libertà come principio costitutivo per l’accesso teoretico al mondo esterno. Ricostruendo i diversi contesti entro cui i due sistemi hanno origine, si mostrano l’irriducibile differenza tra i rispettivi piani argomentativi (filosofia trascendentale e analisi riflessiva dell’io reale finito) e l’analogo percorso speculativo in base al quale, in entrambi i casi, l’idea di edificare un «sistema della libertà» nasce dall’inadeguatezza di modelli filosofici dogmatico-deterministi. Si rilevano poi analogie tra le due teorie dell’Io: la coscienza è definita tramite l’opposizione tra l’originaria attività libera e una resistenza che la converte in sforzo o tensione (Streben, effort). La consonanza tra Wissenschaftslehre e Science de l’homme in relazione ai due punti evidenziati permette di interpretare i due sistemi come declinazioni, entro diverse aree filosofico-culturali, di problematiche comuni. Se quindi da un lato si intende arricchire il repertorio di studi sulla contestualizzazione della dottrina fichtiana, dall’altro si segnala, in Maine de Biran, una propensione verso tematiche trascendentali che mostra in modo inedito la complessità del suo pensiero, non pienamente riducibile al contesto dell’Idéologie
