Population development of municipalities in the Moravian-Silesian Region after 1990

This article presents a regional analysis of the population size of municipalities in the Moravian-Silesian Region after 1990. Population size, determined by natural change and migration behaviour, is always a key issue for municipalities with a view to their future development. As part of the background to population development in the municipalities in this region, the article analyses population development in the Czech regions since 1869, with a more detailed focus on the Moravian-Silesian Region, especially since 1994. It looks at natural change and migration behaviour in 300 municipalities in the Moravian-Silesian Region from 1994 to 2020, and it examines the basic differences in population growth or decline in the municipalities in two different periods (1994-2008 and 2009-2020). It also analyses the differences in the long-term development of the population size of municipalities in the Moravian-Silesian Region from the perspective of the size categories of municipalities.Web of Science641766
