Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are one of the most exciting discoveries and are studied from thepast two decades. This paper discusses the different allotropes of carbon. A brief survey of history of CNTs, different types of CNTs its geometry, structure and different shapes of CNTs was carried out. Various properties of CNTs such as electronic, mechanical and thermal are explained in detail. The different methods for the production of CNTs are explained outlining their capabilities, efficiencies and possible exploitation for large scale production
