The present study proposes a measurement method for the analysis of current distribution within conductors. Given a set of field measurements in the space surrounding a conductor, a filament model can be used to derive information about the current distribution from the measurements. Different kind of magnetometers are studied within the framework of the presented method, comparing their characteristics. The possibility of expressing the method in analytical form allows for a parametric study, independent of individual measurement setups.
