Attitudes and opinions about ethical positions for AI in healthcare

Artificial Intelligence in healthcare is a vibrant topic that many people and experts have different opinions about. Due to different norms and cultures, the usage and opinions of AI in healthcare differ around the world. Consequently, ethical questions regarding AI in healthcare are complex. AI in healthcare is a sensitive subject because of the delicate nature of healthcare. This results in discussions on how to use AI ethically. Due to these discussions, we adress two research questions in this thesis. The first research question is: How does the public think that decision-making on ethical issues within AI in healthcare should be handled? The second research question is: Is the public prepared to hand over decision-making in different scenarios in healthcare to artificial intelligence? Through these questions, we aim to understand more about the Swedish public's opinion rather than the experts and organizations working in this area. This area of the subject was motivated by the lack of research on the general public in this matter. Therefore, a survey was created to collect data about this subject. The data collected through the survey led to a result. Some of the findings were that the general Swedish public wants the government to decide on ethical issues within AI in healthcare. Furthermore, respondents were skeptical about giving all the decision-making to AI in most of the given scenarios in the survey. This thesis answers these questions and gives insight into the Swedish general public’s opinions regarding ethical issues with AI in healthcare.
