The aryl boronic acid form complexes with 1,2-diols or 1,3- diols and used largely for separation,detection and transport of sugars.The boronate ligand form cyclic esters producing a five or six membered ring with a 1,2 diol .Hence for practical purpose it is essential to immobilise aryl boronic acid on a solid support like mesoporous silica in order to facilitate solid phase extraction and reusability of the matrix by applying external magnetic field
