The paper discusses iconicity in Tacitus' works. It highlights the presence of the principle of psychological sequentiality, particulary in the way that Tacitus described the feelings of his protagonists. The analysis reveals that Tacitus strictly observed the principles of proximity and quantity, especially while depicting battles, which enchant with their vivid descriptions. Finally, the paper discusses the so-called disorder of form – the use of asyndetic clauses of chaotic construction
