The article presents Writing Culture as a groundwork, which continues to be a signifi cant point of reference for various discussions and disputes in contemporary anthropology. However, the author argues that at the same time, Writing Culture is also an example of an incoherent and eclectic attempt of the critique of anthropological knowledge. The book, as the author suggests, aims not to undermine the particular ethnographic descriptions, but rather to show the inadequate language of ethnography as a whole.
