In the Palestinian literature very often appear symbolic motives, mythological elements and legends. Symbolism is particularly evident in the works of the most famous Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. His first poems were characterized by modest symbolism expressed in concrete terms relating to the Palestinian reality and nature. For example, the words: olive, orange, wheat, sun, night, stone, sea and moon represent specific symbolic meanings in the concept of the Palestinians, at specific time and environment. In Darwish’s poetry significant progress in using more perfect and richer symbols can be observed.
