Volume 45 (2013)

The 2013 edition of The Broad River Review was edited by C. V. Davis. The publication contains fiction, non-fiction, art, poetry, and photography. The cover, Rainbow of Kayaks, was photographed by Kathleen Gunton. The winner of the J. Calvin Koontz Poetry Award, given annually for a portfolio of poetry to a senior English major, is Elizabeth Van Halsema. The Broad River Review Editor\u27s Prize in Poetry is chosen among all submissions from Gardner-Webb University students. The winners of the poetry award are Hannah Mayfield for her work titled, A Woman in Labor and Amy Snyder for her work titled, In the Company. The Rash Awards, named in honor of Ron Rash, a 1976 graduate of Gardner-Webb University, are awarded annually for outstanding works in poetry and fiction. The 2012 award recipients Abigail Lipscomb for her fiction work titled, “Carousel” and Karen Luke Jackson for her poem titled, “A Triptych on the First Anniversary of My Mother’s Death.” Jill McCorkle of Hillsborough, North Carolina, and Kathryn Stripling Byer of Cullowhee, North Carolina, served as judges for the fiction and poetry contests, respectively.https://digitalcommons.gardner-webb.edu/brreview/1002/thumbnail.jp
