Excerpts from the report: The economic cost of farm accidents has not been estimated but the toll in lost time, production, and income, and in increased expenses, particularly medical and hospital costs, is substantial. The relatively large number of farm accidents becomes more important when viewed along with the fact that farm people are not as well prepared as other groups to meet health expenses with hospital and surgical insurance. A Public Health Service survey during July 1961-June 1963 showed that only 42 percent of the farmworkers had hospital insurance and 37 percent had surgical insurance.
